Each company carries 'call sizes' regionally. Different areas of the country tend to have different 'call sizes' to fit the needs of the area.

Vinyl windows are way thicker (inside to outside) than aluminum. Aluminum are butted up to the sill and drywall. Vinyl go further inside over the sill and drywall. I use custom sizes 95% of the time. I will only use 'call' if it is exactly the same as the installers measurement. You want the biggest 'box' that will fit tight drywall to drywall - drywall to sill. If a 'call' size is short either direction it just gets caulked over. Less energy efficient, doesn't look as good and could be a hugh issue in storms. A most important issue is how the flange connects on the outside of this 'box' to the window. You must get a vinyl window that has a flange system that is made to connect directly to the window and not glued on. I would spend the extra for custom sized especially if you plan on living there for any length of time.

My windows have the grids / grills / mullions inside the 2 panes of glass. I don't know alot about the add ons. My installer has mentioned the stick on ones in the past. Can't help there...

I'm not confused, I'm well mixed.
