1) Is there a "standard" window size used by all manufacturers, or are there slight differences in dimensions? Even if there are differences, is replacement of one brand by another relatively easy, or is it a costly step?

2) Along the same lines, how likely is it to get grilles from one manufacturer that fit another's windows? We have double-hung windows with these cheap-a$$ grilles held in by small pins, and they are always spontaneously falling out. I have heard that some manufacturers (Pella, among them) use spring-loaded grilles instead and that these work better.
