Vinyl windows are thicker / wider than aluminum windows inside to outside. Alum is approx 1 7/8" wide. Vinyl are approx 3" wide.Thus the window is inset inside the house further than the alum. (usually covering up drywall damage) Alum windows are measured outside to get a flange to flange measurement were as the flange is added on to a vinyl window after the frame is installed. Vinyl windows are all custom made to fit into the largest drywall to drywall to drywall to sill square possible.

The average Florida kitchen sink / bathroom window inside measure 36w x 37h or 52w x 50h.

By adding width plus height you come up with a united inch measurement.

36 x 37 window = 73 U.I.
52 x 50 = 102 U.I.

73 x 74 twin window = 36.5 + 74 + 36.5 +74 (2 half widths plus 2 heights) = 221 U.I.

110 x 62 triple window = 36.7 + 62 + 36.7 + 62 + 36.7 + 62 (3 third widths plus 3 heights) = 296 U.I.

Half round / geometric measured same, widest width x tallest height, but charged at a higher per inch rate.

Add up all windows to get a total U.I.

I'm not confused, I'm well mixed.
