Cam Akers is a highly touted freshman out of Clinton, Mississippi. Akers was the #2 player nationally and the #1 running back in the nation out of high school in 2017. He was an early enrollee at FSU and spent the spring impressing with his natural ability. Akers played quarterback in high school, though he was always going to be a running back at the college level. He has the talent to be an immediate impact player and will split time in the backfield to start the season. Akers has a good combination quickness, speed, and vision and is a game breaking type of athlete.

Derwin James is a redshirt sophomore and the unquestioned leader of the Noles defense. James burst on the scene as a freshman finishing the season second on the team in tackles with 91 despite starting just 8 games. He’s a versatile athlete that has lined up all the way from the backend at safety to the line at defensive end. He possesses a rare combination of size and speed and plays at a fast speed with a nose for the ball. After missing the majority of the 2016 season, James has garnered all kinds of hype from the national media as one of the top defenders and top players in college football. If he lives up to the hype, good things are in store for the FSU defense.
