#5 – Reggie Northrup
Linebacker – 6’1″ 220 lbs – Junior
Reggie Northrup enters his Junior season without having started a game yet, but still making an impact. In fact, he finished 8th on the team in tackles with 46 last season in a backup and special teams role. Northrup was listed on the pre-fall depth chart as the starting middle linebacker, but it looks like E.J. Levenberry might win that job. Whether or not Northrup actually does win a starting job, he will most certainly see the field plenty as he’s shown plenty of ability in his first two seasons as a play making defender with a nose for the ball.
Oh, there’s another #5, too…
#5 – Jameis Winston
Quarterback – 6’4″ 230 lbs – RS Sophomore
Jameis Winston will try to follow up a year for the ages as he starts for the second consecutive years as the Seminole quarterback. How exactly does one top a year when they set numerous school records, lead the team to an undefeated season and national championship, toss the winning touchdown pass in the national championship game in the waning seconds, and win the Heisman Trophy? With the loss of several weapons on the outside like Kelvin Benjamin and Kenny Shaw, it shouldn’t be shocking if his numbers decline a bit. However, each time Winston has been questioned, he’s stepped up to the challenge and proved any and all naysayers wrong. It isn’t like Winston will be hurting in his supporting cast, either. He has an excellent, veteran offensive line with a combination of dependable, veteran receivers in Rashad Greene and Nick O’Leary and young, potential studs in Ermon Lane and Travis Rudolph. Personally, I’m not betting against Winston.
