#55 – Fred Jones
Inside Linebacker – 6’3″ 241 lbs – 1983-1986
Fred Jones was a tackling machine at Florida State making 326 tackles over his 4 years in Tallahassee. In his sophomore and junior seasons, he finished 2nd on the team in tackles going over 100 total tackles in both seasons. As a senior he finished with 98 tackles and third on the team, but was named as an Honorable Mention All-American during that 1986 season. He had double digit tackles in 11 games in the garnet and gold and seemed to come up big in big games. Of his double digit tackle performances 8 of those came against big time opponent or in bowl games including Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Auburn, and South Carolina. Jones started a bit of a family tradition in Tallashassee that continues today. In addition to Fred Sr., his son Fred Jr. signed in 2014 and will join the FSU football team this season. You may have heard of his little brother, too – Marvin Jones.
