#86 – Rod Owens
Wide Receiver – 6’0″ 183 lbs – 2005-2009
Rod Owens had an unfortunate start to his career at Florida State. After showing some promise his freshman season appearing in 11 games and making 9 catches for 113 yards and 1 touchdown, he tore his ACL in Bowl practices and would miss the next year. By the time he returned in 2007 he wasn’t quite the same wide receiver and had difficulty getting touches. Nicknamed “Old School” for his wardrobe, dance skills, but most importantly for his work ethic, he battled back to finally feel comfortable with his knee again. He saw a slight increase in his production in 2008 (15 catches 183 yards), but really saw his hard work pay off in 2009. That season he led the Noles in catches (61) and yards (729) as Florida State featured a pretty prolific passing attack under Christian Ponder. Owens will be most remembered for being on the receiving end of an FSU record (tied) 98 yard touchdown pass against North Carolina. That was the big play in the biggest game of Owens career as he finished with 9 catches for 199 yards in the game.
