#4 – Giorgio Newberry
Giorgio Newberry is a 6’6″ 273 lbs tight end out of Fort Pierce, FL. Newberry is entering his RS Sophomore season and will be counted on to fill the void at TE left by injury and transfers. He played in all 12 games last season at defensive end in a backup role and had a solid, if uninspiring, season. This year he will be counted on to step up his game on the opposite side of the ball. Newberry was an excellent offensive tackle coming out of high school and even performed admirably going up against Jadaveon Clowney in the Under Armor All-American game. The hope is that he will be able to come in and have that effect in the run game as a big blocker on the edge for the Noles.
#4 – Freddie Stevenson
Freddie Stevenson is a 6’1″ 230 lbs linebacker out of Bartow, FL. Stevenson was an early enrollee for the Seminoles in January of 2013 and was able to get a valuable spring practice under his belt before his true freshman season. In a loaded linebacker class, Stevenson is sometimes overshadowed by Matthew Thomas and E.J. Levenberry, but he is a high quality 4 star recruit in his own right. Stevenson is a good redshirt candidate with the current depth at linebacker, but given the propensity for Jimbo Fisher to use young linebackers on special teams, there is a chance he contributes right away in that role.
#5 – Peter Tom Willis
Peter Tom Willis was a 6’3″ 202 lbs quarterback out of Morris, AL. Willis was a 3 year letterman and 1 year starter for the Noles from 1985-89. After redshirting in ’85, Willis would spend the next 3 years in a reserve and backup role for the Seminoles. He found a way to make an impact, though, going 93 of 154 for 1,167 yards 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He took over a the starter in 1989 and turned in the best season for a Seminole quarterback up to that point. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American while 15 new school records that season. Willis threw for a then school record 3,124 yards on 211 of 346 passing with 20 touchdowns. He had seven 300+ yard games that season including two 400+ yard games in the final 3 contests.
Willis was drafted in the 3rd Round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He spent four seasons with the Bears playing in 21 games with 3 starts over that time.
