(Gary W. Green/Orlando Sentinel)

Timmy Jernigan Jr. is a 6’2″ 294 lbs defensive tackle out of Lake City, FL.  Jernigan was a highly rated 5* star prospect out of high school that immediately came in and lived up to his billing.  As a freshman Jernigan served in a reserve role in a deep rotation of talented interior defenders.  He made his presense known playing in all 13 games finishing with 30 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 6 tackles for loss earning 1st Team Freshman All-American honors.  As a sophomore last season, he played an even bigger role becoming one of the most dominating interior players for FSU.  He finished the season with 46 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 8 tackles for loss.  Entering his junior season, Jernigan is on the watch lists for the Outland and Lombardi Awards.  He combines great strength with quickness and good hands to be a disruptive force and one of the top defenders on the Florida State roster.

#8 – Devonta Freeman

(Stephen M. Dowell/Orlando Sentinel)

Devonta Freeman is a 5’9″ 203 lbs running back out of Miami, FL.  Freeman is a quick back with good vision that makes decisive cuts and adds a bit of power.  He was able to contribute right away as a freshman with 120 carries for 579 yards (5th most all-time for an FSU freshman) and 8 touchdowns.  His role was increased after Chris Thompson went down with a back injury and rushed for 100+ yards on two occasions.  In 2012 as a sophomore, Freeman began the season not getting as many carries with Thompson playing superbly.  Thompson went down with a season ending injury for the second consecutive year and Freeman again stepped in and played well.  He finished the season with 660 yards on 111 carries and 8 touchdowns rushing for 100 yards against Maryland and Duke.  Entering the 2013 season, the junior will share starting responsibilities with James Wilder Jr. and the pair make up an excellent combo in the run game for the Noles.
